We had a great time supporting Kirk Fletcher and his amazing band on the beautiful Worthing Pier on the sunny last Friday. Rietta on vocals, Mune on the drums, Malcolm Bruce standing in on the bass and Stuart Dixon on the rhythm guitar. I then joined Kirk and Will Wilde on a couple of blues number during Kirk’s show and had a great fun. Kirk is an amazing and most gracious gentleman. We also met many wonderful people there. Sarah Reeve of “Sarah’s Sussex Blues” page took great photos two of which are shown here.
This was followed by a hip festival in a marquee in Deal, Kent sharing the stage with Katie Bradley and other Kentish acts yesterday. We had the one and only Will Johns playing the rhythm guitar on this gig. Malcolm got held up by the train but we eventually played our set which was broadcast live on the local radio UYC in Dover (except that I didn’t know this was happening until after the gig!) Mune, Malcolm and Will drove the rhythm section along beautifully. We were totally having a blast by the time we hit “Cellar Full of Noise” at full throttle. Malcolm with Will then played a blinding festival headlining slot later in the night.Chuff Fest, Deal photo by Tony Morreli
There is one more gig tomorrow supporting the fantastic Captain Kirk tomorrow night at Haven Club @ the Bullingdon, Cowley Road, Oxford. I played the Bullingdon several times in the mid 2000s with and without Pete Brown and really looking forward to going back there. My dear old friend Sam Kelly will be on the drumming seat with Malcolm playing the last of the three standing in gigs. Stuart will be back on the guitar and of course, the amazing Rietta Austin on the vocals. Looking forward to tomorrow night. If you are in or near Oxford, please come along!
